DEMRE, MYRA, ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH & KEKOVA ISLAND
This is one of the most popular tours among our programmes, which lasts a full day. This fascinating tour enables the clients to visit ancient history while relaxing and sunbathing during the yacht tour to the Sunken Islands. Along the northern shore of the Islands, structural movement over the years has caused some of the ancient houses to be totally submerged, while the remains of the others are scattered along the coastline. During the cruise by yacht, the fascinating Lycian Necropolis, chest-type tombs and the ruins of ancient houses will be seen in the distance, even underwater. The finest examples of Lycian funerary architecture are to be found at Myra, near the expanding present-day town of Demre. Besides all these, the Church of St. Nicholas, who was the patron saint of children is situated in the heart of the little town of Demre. Enjoy this splendid full-day tour in combination with a bus and yacht.
MYRA
Situated in Demre town, Myra used to be one of the most important of the six Lycian cities. Originally a coastal city the gradual build-up of silt from the Demre stream has left it stranded several miles away from the sea. Myra was abandoned after the Arab invasions in the 9th century A.D. The rock tombs and amphitheatre are worth visiting.
Simena (KEKOVA)
Simena( Kekova) is one of the most beautiful places in the region, one that can be reached by boat. When you approach the region by boat or view the areas from the top one of the things that catch your eye the most is the Lycian-type sarcophagi in the sea.
Demre (St Nicholas Church)) is the town where Santa Claus first brought joy. Actually, it was St Nicholas who lived and worked in Demre, and who was later transmuted into the jolly Christmas elf. An 11th-century church in Demre once held his earthly remains. Today the Church of St Nicholas is Demre's most visited site.
Çayagzi, 5 km west of Demre, was called Andriake in Roman times and has more ruins, a decent beach, and a small harbour.
